Do You Resist Your Creative Practice

Creative Practice and Resistance

Today I'm sharing some thoughts on resistance and the creative practice.  Yes, sooner or later, I think we all can relate to resistance on our creative journey...

Are you paralyzed with fear? That’s a good sign. Fear is good. Like self-doubt, fear is an indicator. Fear tells us what we have to do. Remember one rule of thumb: the more scared we are of a work or calling, the more sure we can be that we have to do it.”  ― Steven PressfieldThe War of Art: Break Through the Blocks & Win Your Inner Creative Battles

I raise the following questions regarding creative practice that you'll probably have encountered yourself:

  • Why might we resist?

  • How to overcome the resistance?

  • What do we do about it?

  • Is there a possibility that we’re just not creative enough?

  • Do we just need to bow down to the pressure of life and forget our creative dreams?

I also share: Why downtime ie. in the shower, listening to music, or just looking out of the window is so important; playing is good for you and it's a 'limbic brain' thing!

I hope my suggestions help you to take heart of the simple fact that we all go through these times of resistance to creative practice and that with a little understanding to the resistance, we can come through the other side, sometimes all the better for it.

Please share any discoveries you've made, or are making, with your creative practice - I'd love to hear from you.  Also, if you're wanting to dig a little deeper with this topic and how resistance might be thwarting you presently, consider a one to one online mentoring session with me.
